Diversions

Just because there is a war on and the bad guys are about to take Kabul, is no reason to not have a good time. Although General Order Number One does not allow us to drink booze or get nekked with the opposite sex, we can on occassion enjoy the simple things in life...like breakfast on a mountain top.

It's a tough climb, but the scenery isn't too bad.
Umm, you'll see what I mean by that a little later.

The view is worth the climb.
The "fog" you see in the low areas is actually smoke from the fires used to heat homes.

Though this was early December, the sun warmed everyone quickly.

Breakfast served by an Irishman.

A wee spot of hot tea and and some cakes. Our Colonel on the left.
He's recently ended his tour and has returned to England.

The Irishman, the Colonel and the Major on the left have all returned home.
The Regimental Sergeant Major in the Army sweatshirt is from Glasgow.
When he speaks one of our Air Force guys frequently asks for a translation.

Breakfast on the edge.
One wrong move for those at the edge and it's a thousand foot drop.

UK Embassy Babe.
Remember when I talked about the good view going up?
It was the south end of this lady...a real motivator to keep climbing!

After the climb, several dead Taliban were discovered.
We presume they died of heart attacks.
Some of the guys in our party almost perished too.

I always find the way back down to be harder than going up.

Destroyed tank from the Afghan Civil War.
That was the period betweent the Soviet departure
and the arrival of the Taliban.
From inside the turret if you look through the barrel, you will see that it is sighted on the King's Palace.

The ladies took possession.

The ladies took possession. But I don't see any frilly curtains? ;)

Or the scatter cushions, the drapes, the flowers....:)

Your pictures never cease to amaze me J. Charles - just because a lady takes possession it doesn't mean it will be all those frilly things. I tend to lean towards blinds, the darker the better, and darker colors to keep things "moody". :)

Wow, what wonderful views. You wouldn't catch me standing anywhere near that edge though ;)

Great photos of your breakfast hike, and most certainly a wonderful diversion from your regular days.

Hello J.L!

That is a spectacular view! What a place to enjoy breakfast.

I suppose anywhere you go there, you are not far from the reminders of war.

So, do the bodies just get left there? I imagine those people have families somewhere wondering what became of them.

Take care of yourself.

Charles,
Yeah well you didn't see any froo-froo clothing on those ladies either. They were tough cookies!

Henry the Dog's Mum,
You will be missed. I hope everything works out ok for you, UHugh and Henry. We'll be looking forward to your return.

preTzel,
Yeah and I'm real sucker for the "tough" women.

Reb,
Yes, the drop was 1,000 feet to the first bounce...2,000 more after that.

Barbara,
If not for the war, this country would be a load of fun to travel...after the mines are removed.

Joanie M,
Thanks a bunch!

Travis,
But no questions about getting nekked with the opposite sex?

El!
I hope that's a good wow!

Muse!
Of course you realize the "dead Taliban" a joke, right? The Taliban have a thing about seeing a woman dressed in any way except a shapless blob.

Late to the party, as always, but these are great pictures. Worth the cardiac casualties. When you started with the "Irishman, the Colonel, and the Major" though, I felt a joke coming on. Something about a Brit, a Scot, and an Irishman on a mountaintop....
